Diverge

What is it?

Diverge is a project to make an easy-to-use, cross-platform development environment for making 2D, console-style games. Diverge uses VERGE -- an existing game creation engine for DOS and Windows -- as its base.

News

  • 10/08/01 - Since VERGE has switched to Python on its own, I've stopped working on creating a stand-alone engine and switched instead to creating a unified environment for creating VERGE 2.7 games. I plan to implement this environment in Python using wxPython for the interface; I have some draft implementations for parts of the environment available to anyone who is interested. I've also released a little Python utility for converting source code from Verge C to Python syntax; you can download it from the sourceforge project download page.

Downloads

Currently, you can download the source and executables for VW, a port of V2+i to Windows, released under the GPL:

Also, you can view what passes for VW's documentation:

Note that VW will not work without a V2+i game in the same directory. You can download a V2+i demo game and V2+i game development tools at the V2+i homepage.

If you find bugs or incompatibilities not listed in the Changes.txt file, you can submit them to Diverge's bug tracker.

If you need help developing a V2+i or VERGE game, you should try the Verge Source message board or the official VERGE site's message board.
